Yesterday, starting mid afternoon, Bo (Ambassador/Phonix Rodeo Legends litter) started giving birth to her first litter. She was bred to a beautiful Czech import CH Afanasij od Podhorniho vrchu JC. ...and my 20th home bred AKC champion since my first litter was born 12 years ago. He finished with 3 majors including a 5pt major Specialty win under breeder Sandy Simmons, his first points, this past August.

He is a litter brother to Charles Green and Gretchen Theile's Serrano, who is the #1 2009 AKC Lure Coursing borzoi, as well as Ros Barden's Grand Champion "Chilli" 2009 top ranking borzoi bitch in Australia. Another litter sister "Belle" is a BIF winner, Specialty winner, and finished Champion (and new mother).

If he could, my little red haired boy would sure appreciate knowing he didn't have to dress up anymore for those silly shows. He will be pleasantly surprised when the next time he is loaded onto and out of the the van, he will get to chase bunnies!

Special thanks and congrats to co-breeder Rita Linck-Rice for conceiving this "coursing/show litter" in her mind out of "Scandalicious" and Tom Golcher and KC Thompson's illustrious and very accomplished athlete, Kazan, years before it was bred. And thank you Tom and KC for allowing us to use Kazan and for cheering ALL his kids on along the way.

I just LOVE my beautiful, sweet, red boy Matador. He will now pass on the "show dog" baton to his little half brother Lagan who has been waiting his turn.

RMBC Fun Run - Saturday January 16 12pm

Just a reminder that there will be ASFA Certification Runs available at the RMBC Fun Run scheduled for Saturday, 16 January. There will be a separate sign up sheet for the Certs and Fun Run. The price is the same - $5.00 for the first hound and $3.00 for each additional hound from the same owner. The Certs will start at 12pm and the Fun Run will begin at the conclusion of any Cert Runs.

FC Aria Svora Serrano Ex Libris FCh, LCX, LCM 2009 AKC LC #1 Borzoi

 is officially the 2009 #1 Borzoi in AKC Lure Coursing for the USA.
Serrano, lovingly known by his owners, Gretchen Thiele PHD and Charles Green, as the Little Red Menace (LRM), is from the Red Hot Chili Peppers litter bred by Shirley McFadden and Rita Rice. The Dam is MBIF Dual Champion Svora's Scandalous SC, FCH and the Sire, our own, Chabibi's Korona-Kazan SC, LCM, SGRC, ORC.
The final 2009 ASFA standing have not been published but as of 11/20/2009 Serrano was also the ASFA #3 borzoi. 
KC and I are so very proud, not only of Serrano's accomplishment but we are so appreciative of the commitment of Gretchen and Charles to allow Serrano the opportunities they have given him to shine.

"The Show MUST GO ON" vs Safety of humans and critters

Sometimes I think that I am from a different planet because of the way I look at things. When any coursing or racing event is approaching and the weather leading up to the event has made the grounds questionable, conditions for traveling to the grounds less than safe, or conditions forecast for day of trial unsafe for humans, when do you cross the line of running the trial vs cancelling the trial and how soon do you do this. This is an amazing balancing act to accomplish. Perhaps the thought is; the show must go on no matter what because of the parent club, besides this is (any location) and the conditions right here at the coursing site may be different than 10 miles away. If you show up the hounds will run, if you don't, well we were here because we are tough. I can see this way of thinking as a lot of planning and effort goes into putting on an event and we are (any named club). After all, is it not up to the individual, who needs to make the decision of playing or not.
Decisions:
The field has been frozen solid for 4 or more days, the temps are not going to get anywhere near or above freezing for another 4 days with nights going into single digits. The field is frozen solid with a light covering of snow and ice. OK fast, powerful dogs (sighthounds) are at higher risk for toe injuries and stretched/pulled/torn muscles because of these conditions(?). 
Because of temps not expected to get above 25 (F) and the winds forecast to be 15 mph or greater, the humans will be at risk of asthma attacks, frostbite and hypothermia, but they are all smart and will dress for the weather (?). 
The roads are clear but a snow/ice pack still covers most rural area roads, leaving the roads less than safe. Anyone traveling to the site knows how to drive in the winter (?). 
So you are the Field Chairman - what would you do?
This is not written as a criticism to anyone or to any club. I am trying to gather opinions and insight. Perhaps my understanding of the duties/responsibilities of a FC is different than other's or perhaps my definition of safety is misguided. I am interested in your input.
