Moments after posting about 2012 on this blog we lost one of our dearest hounds. Zoiboyz Summer Jazz (Zoiboyz Nitro & DC Silkenswift Lady in Red SC) left us today for the Bridge. God decided it was time to take him and in the process gave him a gift. He gave Jazz what any borzoi would love to have if it were their last moments on earth.
Jazz along with Challenger, Kiev, and Nitro were out in the east pasture with KC. KC was taking advantage of the beautiful day and was taking photos of the hounds. She was focusing on Jazz when a jack rabbit decided to leave its hiding place. The photos to follow are of the brilliant chase that Jazz gave. Unfortunately it was his last chase as he collapsed and died in the field afterwards.
Jazz was our first Duel Champion, thanks to Rebecca Peters Campbell, and had a character unmatched, with the exception of maybe his Dam, Carmen. Jazz bonded with me (Tom) the first time he laid eyes on me and I knew he would be mine, always. He will always have a special place in our heart. Join your Grandfather, Ambassador beautiful red boy and run with him until I join you one day.
KC & I will miss this beautiful red boy. He has taken a piece of our hearts.

He has taught us so much and we cherish each and every day he is with us.

We have been blessed over the years by having the privilege of owning some really fantastic and versatile borzois. Comet was among one of our best.

On January 11, 2011 Comet was diagnosed with an enlarged heart by the Southern Colorado Veterinary Specialty Center.

This was quite a shock to us because Comet has been a tremendous athlete thru out his life. If you browse his accomplishments, you will get a sense of how talented he was. Echocardiograms on Comet’s sire Kazan, and two of Comet’s full brothers revealed strong hearts and no associated pathologies. The cardiologist started Comet on a regimen of medications, designed to support his heart. The medications did their work, and he continued living as a happy, comfortable, much loved hound. He ate, slept, and played with kennelmates Kiev, Jazz, and Nitro with occasional walks in the pasture with KC or me.

Early on the morning of June 28, 2011, KC went downstairs to feed the ‘boyz and to give Comet his meds. When Comet did not rush in with the others at her arrival KC knew something was wrong. She went outside to find Comet, no longer breathing. It appeared as though he died while in full stride. Around dawn that day, we recall hearing the ‘boyz barking and running about the paddock, doing their best to threaten a visiting jack or coyote crossing the pasture. We believe he died then. He was probably gone before he hit the ground.

Comet had a great character and loved people, especially the elderly. He was so gentle with Bopcha and other members of the family when he got to visit with them. He was very quiet. It was a rarity for him to bark or make a sound, except for the group howls that happen on occasion around here.

Comet will be missed terribly by us all at the Zoiboyz . We can only imagine that he is chasing bunnies with Grandpa Bonne Chance and kennelmates Ouragan and Aramis who died before him.

Goodbye our fiery red boy—we’ll see you on the other side.

Grass Fire near the Ranch

This fire started about 11am on Wednesday, Feb 16. I was 50 miles away in pueblo when Melissa called. The winds were high from the west and the house and hounds would be in dire danger if the winds shifted to the south. KC rushed home from Peterson AFB and got there just as an evacuation order via reverse 911 calls came in. KC & Melissa started our evac plan and just about ready to load dogs when the return home authorization came via phone. The fire dept did a fantastic job of protecting the residences in the fires path and they worked all day and through the night to make sure no hot spots could flare up again.

We were really lucky that the winds did not shift. These photos were taken from the back balcony of our home.
Lots of adrenalin around the Zoiboyz ranch. We are so thankful that Melissa was here to sound the alarm and look after our property and hounds.

The fire was started by a spark coming off of a chop saw being used by a road crew putting in a guard rail.

Some Updates from the ZoiBoyz

September 4 > Durango wins BoB on day 1 of the Region 3 invitational. Denver was 2nd in open class.

September 5 > Durango wins BoB and Best in Event at Region 3 invitational. After 9 dogs were judged in the BiF runs Denver and Durango tied for the top spot and had to run off against each other. One judge had Durango by 2 and the other had Denver by 1. Durango is victorious.

September 6 > Zoiboyz Summer Jazz wins open class at the RMBC Fall Specialty.

September 9 > Tom has surgery to repair a damaged nerve that controls feeling in the left face. The condition is known as trigeminal neuralgia. The surgery lasted 5 hours and to date has been successful.

September 17 > Durango wins BoB on day one of the Grand National. Denver was 3rd in Open class.

September 18 > Challenger wins BoB on day 2 of the Grand National

September 19 > Denver wins open class and Durango wins BoB on day 3 of the Grand national. 9 hounds ran in the Best in the Grand National. Durango scored third highest.

September 25 > Zoiboyz Perfect Storm v. Rosehill won the German Coursing Championship for the second year in a row.

October 2 > Denver takes first place in open class at the RMCC ASFA coursing in Wellington, CO.

October 6 > Friends and Mentors Hans Malota and Dagmar Kohl are traveling from Germany to Colorado to pick up the two new Malota Family additions; Romashka's Eowyn by Zoiboyz and Romashka's Eyla by Zoiboyz.

FCI International Racing Champion BiF Silkenswift Ambassador FCh has made it to the wonderful age of 13. He is vibrant and loves life. Several folks were present on his birthday to sing happy birthday including Nadine Johnson and daughter MaryAnn, Melissa Pearce, Renada Roder, Bobbie Deis, and several others..

WE again send thank yous to Bonnie Dalzell for letting us have this wonderful borzoi. He has changed our way of life for the better and has given us memories that will never fade.

Along with Mr. Ambassador we celebrate the 7th birthday for our German born boys, Kazan and Kiev. This duo has added so much to the Zoiboyz Pack over the years. Thanks to our friend Elke Scheringer-Bartnick for having the vision to use our very talented Silkenswift Bonne Chance in her breeding program. Although Kiev has shown moments of brilliance in the coursing field, OFC, and racing, it is Kazan who has provided us the privledge of owning such a special hound. 2010 ASFA II – my thoughts

The Good

From the time we arrived to the time we left the many people putting on the 2010 ASFA II were kind, helpful, and in good spirits.

They had a very good handle on the parking and instructions for those that needed them.

The “Field Trial” signs were prominent to help guide us there.

Right in the center between the two fields sat a large tent that served well for a gathering place and awards place throughout the weekend.

Two large paddock tents were available to provide a shaded area and X-pens set up to display the draw and scores.

There seemed to be plenty of portable restrooms available with plenty of supplies throughout the weekend.

There was a water buffalo and a hose – more on this later.

There was a nice variety of venders including a food vender.

Inspections were done very efficiently. We can all learn from them.

During the trials the draw and scores were posted in very good time. When there were errors they were fixed in good time.

The Judges were very experienced.

The Lure Ops were some of the best in the country

The golf carts were life savers.

There was a Vet on site the entire time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – This should be mandatory at each II

There was evident good organization in the planning and operating the trials.

The everyday food and drink prices were reasonable.

Plenty of Silkens for their first eligible II (of 14 eligible 11 were there) – also plenty of Whippets (4 flights)!!!

Thanks to Garret (Nada’s Son) there was plenty of help keeping generators running, jumping autos, fixing this and that.

The Bad

The water buffalo was not manned adequately and on occasion it would run out of water and was not filled promptly – making some hounds go without cool down water – mine included.

If I had not dumped the booze out of the wading pools there would have been only 1 pool for use in cooling the hounds down. (6 coming off the 2 fields and 6 going out) After I dumped the booze there were 3 available.

The paid for special dinner was not very good for the price paid. There were lots of complaints as to the quantity and quality of portions. They told me they ran out but had enough the next day for sandwiches. hmmm

Requests from the exhibitors to take a look at changing the field set up feel on deaf ears.

The Field Chairman did not think it unusual for the quantity of injuries taking place. He could have/ should have called a Field Committee meeting and at least discussed softening the boxes built in the course plan.

The Lure Ops could not see the entire course and when the weather went south they could only run the lure – they could not see the hounds.

Equipment problems extended the trial by hours. There was no emergency cut off to the power.

The Ugly

By my count between 30 and 40 percent of the entered hounds could not complete the II because of field related injuries.

During an electrical storm over the field and a torrential downpour, with the lure operator 15 feet in the air, the Field Chairman or the President of ASFA, did not temporarily clear the field for the safety of the people and hounds. We escaped tragedy.

Both fields were set up so that 90% of the run was not visible by the exhibitor. No-one travels hundreds or a thousand or more miles to not watch their hounds run. This also means that the Hunt Master could not see the course. How could the HM possibly been watching out for the safety of the hounds?

Overview

So another II is in the books. The best part of this II’s is meeting the folks that usually you only get to see their names on the discussion lists.

It should also be about the hounds too. But when you could not see any of the runs it is hard to say “wasn’t that a beautiful run”, “I am so glad I witnessed that”, “That is some great hounds running there”, “that dog really deserved the best in II” – but we saw none of that. A shame.

The Battle of the Brothers

The battle of the brothers today in Coloado ASFA lure coursing. The fresh legs of Durango took on Denver and won hands down. The course today had some hard up hills and a long 270 yard straight after the hill. Durango's beautiful stride took it with ease. Denver looked good but just could not keep up with his brother.

We are proud to announce that Dillon, owned and loved by Dr. G. L. Thiele & Charles D. Greene, particapated in his first LGRA meet this past weekend. 3 GRC points and 1.5 NRC points for his first outting is pretty darn good. He was running with the highest scoring borzoi ever in this sport, Renee's Gossip.
On day one, as a FTE, Dillon was getting familuar with the box, etc and finished 7 of 11 hounds. On day two he finished in 2nd place behind Gossip. We are so very proud.

Aramis/Tornado update

The AI was completed with no problems on Thursday April 11 by our repro vet. She came home that night and other than some minor pain Thursday night and Friday she is doing just great. Now we just wait for Mother Nature to work. I'll post when there are signs.

The Register Of Merit (ROM) is a title awarded by a breed's parent club to recognize sires and dams whose offspring have earned a notable number of titles in conformation and/or performance competition. The Register Of Merit title is a permanent suffix to the dog's registered name. The Borzoi Club of America will award qualifying sires and dams one of the following Register Of Merit titles: ROM, ROM-C, ROM-P, ROMX, ROMX-C, or ROMX-P.

A big thank you goes out to all of those who have taken their hounds out to play in the various sports and shows to make this possible. This was done primarily with just 2 litters and there are 2 more litters just coming of age and we expect they will produce even more titles.

...and my 20th home bred AKC champion since my first litter was born 12 years ago. He finished with 3 majors including a 5pt major Specialty win under breeder Sandy Simmons, his first points, this past August.

He is a litter brother to Charles Green and Gretchen Theile's Serrano, who is the #1 2009 AKC Lure Coursing borzoi, as well as Ros Barden's Grand Champion "Chilli" 2009 top ranking borzoi bitch in Australia. Another litter sister "Belle" is a BIF winner, Specialty winner, and finished Champion (and new mother).

If he could, my little red haired boy would sure appreciate knowing he didn't have to dress up anymore for those silly shows. He will be pleasantly surprised when the next time he is loaded onto and out of the the van, he will get to chase bunnies!

Special thanks and congrats to co-breeder Rita Linck-Rice for conceiving this "coursing/show litter" in her mind out of "Scandalicious" and Tom Golcher and KC Thompson's illustrious and very accomplished athlete, Kazan, years before it was bred. And thank you Tom and KC for allowing us to use Kazan and for cheering ALL his kids on along the way.

I just LOVE my beautiful, sweet, red boy Matador. He will now pass on the "show dog" baton to his little half brother Lagan who has been waiting his turn.

RMBC Fun Run - Saturday January 16 12pm

Just a reminder that there will be ASFA Certification Runs available at the RMBC Fun Run scheduled for Saturday, 16 January. There will be a separate sign up sheet for the Certs and Fun Run. The price is the same - $5.00 for the first hound and $3.00 for each additional hound from the same owner. The Certs will start at 12pm and the Fun Run will begin at the conclusion of any Cert Runs.

is officially the 2009 #1 Borzoi in AKC Lure Coursing for the USA.
Serrano, lovingly known by his owners, Gretchen Thiele PHD and Charles Green, as the Little Red Menace (LRM), is from the Red Hot Chili Peppers litter bred by Shirley McFadden and Rita Rice. The Dam is MBIF Dual Champion Svora's Scandalous SC, FCH and the Sire, our own, Chabibi's Korona-Kazan SC, LCM, SGRC, ORC.
The final 2009 ASFA standing have not been published but as of 11/20/2009 Serrano was also the ASFA #3 borzoi.
KC and I are so very proud, not only of Serrano's accomplishment but we are so appreciative of the commitment of Gretchen and Charles to allow Serrano the opportunities they have given him to shine.

"The Show MUST GO ON" vs Safety of humans and critters

Sometimes I think that I am from a different planet because of the way I look at things. When any coursing or racing event is approaching and the weather leading up to the event has made the grounds questionable, conditions for traveling to the grounds less than safe, or conditions forecast for day of trial unsafe for humans, when do you cross the line of running the trial vs cancelling the trial and how soon do you do this. This is an amazing balancing act to accomplish. Perhaps the thought is; the show must go on no matter what because of the parent club, besides this is (any location) and the conditions right here at the coursing site may be different than 10 miles away. If you show up the hounds will run, if you don't, well we were here because we are tough. I can see this way of thinking as a lot of planning and effort goes into putting on an event and we are (any named club). After all, is it not up to the individual, who needs to make the decision of playing or not.
Decisions:
The field has been frozen solid for 4 or more days, the temps are not going to get anywhere near or above freezing for another 4 days with nights going into single digits. The field is frozen solid with a light covering of snow and ice. OK fast, powerful dogs (sighthounds) are at higher risk for toe injuries and stretched/pulled/torn muscles because of these conditions(?).
Because of temps not expected to get above 25 (F) and the winds forecast to be 15 mph or greater, the humans will be at risk of asthma attacks, frostbite and hypothermia, but they are all smart and will dress for the weather (?).
The roads are clear but a snow/ice pack still covers most rural area roads, leaving the roads less than safe. Anyone traveling to the site knows how to drive in the winter (?).
So you are the Field Chairman - what would you do?
This is not written as a criticism to anyone or to any club. I am trying to gather opinions and insight. Perhaps my understanding of the duties/responsibilities of a FC is different than other's or perhaps my definition of safety is misguided. I am interested in your input.

1. Have just been advised by Gretchen & Charles, of Princeton, NJ, that their FC Aria Svora Serrano Ex Libris FCh, MC, LCX, CGC (Kazan/Scandal) has added ASFA LCM to his titles.
2. BIF Ch. Aria Svora Cascabel-Belle, (Kazan/Scandal) lives with Paul and Jessica Nettles in Louisiana gave birth to 4 girls and 3 boys. Kazan's a Grandpa!!!!!
3. Zoiboyz Dove Creek Drambuie (Kazan/Sara II), owned by Renata Roder, from Breckenridge, CO, won BOB both days in KS at ASFA trials.
4. Zoiboyz Coffee Time v. Rosehill (Ambassador/Phoenix) owned by Petr Vodicka from Marianbad, CZ, got a perfect score at he Halloween coursing in Landstuhl, Germany, finishing in 1st place.
5. Zoiboyz Chevelle (Kazan/Sara I) Owned by Christa Hassel from Tholey-Hasborn, Germany, finished in 4th place at the Halloween Coursing in Landstuhl, Germany with a score of 97
6. Zoiboyz Perfect Storm (Ambassador/Phoenix) Owned by Herbert & Dagmar Kohl from Groß-Umstadt, Germany, finished in 5th place at the Halloween Coursing in Landstuhl Germany, with a score of 94 (some great coursing was had there)

7. Zoiboyz Comet (Kazan/Sara I), living here at the Ranch, finished 4th in the LGRA OB NATS and 3rd in the NOTRA OB Nats.
8. Zoiboyz Challenger (Kazan/Sara I) also here at the Ranch, was undefeated Sunday at a LGRA meet hosted by CLCA and earned 2 points towards his GRC.
9. Zoiboyz Durango and Zoiboyz Denver, (Kazan/Sara II) both here at the Ranch, earned their AKC JC titles at an AKC trial in NM. Denver went on to win a 3 point major by taking BoB later in the trial on Sunday.
10. Zoiboyz Dillon, (Kazan/Sara II) also with Gretchen and Charles in Princeton, NJ, earned his AKC JC title at a trial in CT the same weekend as the OB Nats.
11. Attaway Kinobi Summer Breeze (Breezy), (Nitro/Carmen) owned by Rebecca Peters Campbell & Melissa Pearce went WD Friday and Saturday in conformation shows in CT and on Sunday went to the AKC LC fields and took a 5 pt major over some very nice running hounds, including the current #1 AKC LC hound.
12. Firebird's Tulane (Kazan/Laika) owned by Corrine Miller, Idaho, earned his JC & RN titles along with taking BOB at an ASFA trial.

Wow - it is tough keeping up with the Zoiboyz family but also fun to see so many in homes that allow them to be all they can be. It is really a blessing to have so many wonderful homes for these magnificent hounds. Thanks to all of you who have given so many of the Zoiboyz a good and loving home.

2009 OB Nationals in the can

I got back home from the 2009 OB Nats on Saturday 10/24. 3600 miles round trip in an automobile with 230k miles and two hounds.
I had been watching the weather reports for the event site for a couple of weeks and knew that the reports were not favorable for humans. It was clear when I started out on Wednesday morning (10/14) that I would be traveling with the weather system that would impact the event. It was Monday after the event that I first saw the sun.
First of all let me give a big round of applause to the two clubs responsible for this year's OB Nats. Count Basie Racing Association (COBRA) and the Lehigh Valley Coursing Club (LVCC) put on a very well run, smooth operating, and organized event. The grounds were ideal, even with all the rain it never got so sloppy that it became dangerous for the hounds, or affected their running abilities. The event workers did a great job at adjusting their plans for the adverse weather conditions, and the final outcome was a very well put together event weekend.
Their were many club members working hard both days. I cannot remember all of the names but kudos go to Terri Jones, Jean Pennie, Tracy, Dawn (welcome bags), Jen (banquet), and others that I just cannot pull up their names at this time.
Besides the bone chilling weather the only complaint I could actually make were the ribbons below 1st place. This was a national championship event and the lower placed ribbons could not be distinguished from ribbons given at a regular meet. Nuff said as I do not want to take away from the spectacular event that was held. In all the breeds, from my perspective, there were no controversial decisions leading to the winning placements. The equipment ran very well and the score keepers, boxers, lure operators, paddock masters, foul and line judges all were on the top of their game.
The banquet was well attended and worth every penny. The atmosphere, food, and attendees were just great.
I know some are reading because they want to know how the ZoiBoyz did. After having the LGRA trophy for 3 of the last 4 years and the NOTRA trophy for the last 4 years, I must say that neither came home with me. Mrs Peel, Ashtoria Wild Hunt Mystery Unveiled SC - Ariel Duncan, took home the LGRA trophy and Bartleby, BIF FC Silkenswift Black Lightning SC LCM SGRC ORC JOR - Jamie Bobrowski, went home with the NOTRA trophy. Bartleby also placed 2nd in the LGRA. Comet finished 3rd in LGRA and 4th in NOTRA. Challenger, who went in place of Charger, did not finish the 3rd program of LGRA (he saw me and came direct) and went off course in NOTRA pgm 1 and I scratched him.
It was fun visiting and competing with folks from another part of the country. It was a pleasure to see Karla, Renee, Jamie, and Marie, especially since we have had the pleasure of knowing each other previously through the hounds.
So another OB Nats is in the books and KC & I will look forward to the next one, whenever and where ever it will be held. I know that we have been the farthest travelers at several of these.

A BIG NEWS weekend for the ZoiBoyz

I'll keep it short for now and will follow with more at another time.
This weekend KC & I took Jazz, Indy (Nitro/Carmen summertime litter) and Monte Carlo (Kazan/Laika European cities) to Wellington, CO to attempt to get their AKC JCs. All three succeeded both days and were entered in Sunday's AKC LC trial afterwards. With 8 nice running borzoi in open class Carlo and Jazz tied for 1st place. We flipped a coin and forfeited Carlo to Jazz. Jazz got a 4 point major and Carlo 3 pts. Dagny (Kazan/Scandal rhcp) finished Sunday in 3rd obtaining 1 point and on Saturday won Open class for a point. Comet and Challenger ran both days as the only Specials and Challenger won breed both Saturday and Sunday. Challenger got 1 point on Saturday and a 5 point major on Sunday.
We also found out that Serrano (Kazan/Scandal rhcp litter) earned his LCM on Sunday to go along with his FCh, LCX and MC. And if that wasn't enough good news for the weekend.......Drumroll please..............................................................................................
Zoiboyz Perfect Storm v. Rosehill (Kazan/Phoenix rodeo legends) , who earlier this year won the German Short Track Oval Racing Championship, won the German Coursing Championship in Tuttleben, Germany. AND - I'm not done yet........................................................... Zoiboyz Chevelle (Kazan/Sara muscle cars) placed second in the same event. This is Germany's premiere coursing event. We know several folks who are very pleased this weekend.
We cannot say enough good things about the wonderful people who have liked our hounds enough to breed to and/or to own hounds that have come from our kennel. That is an ultimate pleasure and we thank you.

We are back from our 10 day Germany visit and had a great time. Too much on the plate right now to write a report for the blog. Off to TX for a judging assignment while KC and the hounds play at the Grand National here in Falcon.

There won't be any blogging by me until we return from our trip to Germany.
First we'll get to watch "Stormy", Zoiboyz Perfect Storm v. Rosehill, (Phoenix & Ambassador Rodeo Legends litter) represent Germany in the FCI European Oval Racing Championship. This will take place in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on 5 & 6 September.

Then we visit and meet with friends through out Germany while we work our way south to Stuttgart where we will attend the wedding of some very close friends.

We will return to the ZoiBoyz Ranch soon after. While gone the ranch and hounds will be in good hands by Melissa's watchful eye.
We wish our friends the happiness of a lifetime and may Stormy find that turbo and luck he'll need to be successful in his runs against the best running hounds in Europe.

Fun Run & ASFA Certs August 29

Saturday, August 29 RMBC sponsored a Fun Run hosted here at the ZoiBoyz Ranch. We started off with some ASFA Certifications judged by Deann B. Immediately following the ASFA Certs we started the Fun Run. I am including some sample photos from the day. We got to see some really nice runs by the certing hounds and got to see some first time puppies learn about the lure. I believe everyone had a good time.

Our next Fun Run is scheduled for October 11.

RMBC FUN DAY

The first ever RMBC Fun Day went very well. This was a day filled with activities which started out with an AKC B Match, Kim Plache' organizing and Amy Hobbs Judging. After the B Match awards we held a RMBC Membership meeting (14 members present) followed by a Bar B Q. While we were enjoying the food several of the visiting borzois were left to roam the pasture. It was fun seeing them cruise around like one. A jack rabbit was rustled up by one of them and they all took chase. What a fantastic site to witness. Mr jack escaped unharmed and the Zois got the run of their lives. After eating and the Zois rested a bit we had a Fun Run in which all did very well. Counting kids and family members we had 19 folks enjoying the day here at the ZoiBoyz Ranch. Hopefully we can make it an annual event.

Greeley, Colorado Shows

Interesting weekend. KC took Nitro both days. Plus, on Saturday took a Nitro son, Jazz, and on Sunday a Nitro daughter, Breezy (Breezy is owned by Melissa Pearce and Rebecca Peters Campbell). There were no other male puppies on Saturday and Jazz was given the 1st place ribbon. He did not place in the winners group. On Saturday Nitro placed 3rd of 3 hounds. On Sunday Nitro placed 1st with the same 3 hounds. He did not advance in the winners group but did get reserve. Breezy placed 1st in her puppy class and went on to win Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex for 1 point. KC handled the hounds on Saturday and Rebecca handled them on Sunday. We have no other shows scheduled for the remainder of this year.

New life at the ZoiBoyz Ranch today

Starlet and Halis puppies arrived beginning last night and into the morning. Five beautiful puppies were born - 2 girls and 3 boys - all healthy and Momma is doing well. Melissa Pearce and Rebecca Peters Campbell kept vigil all night long to make sure all went well. Many folks in the news loop from the west coast to the east coast.

Zoiboyz Summer Jazz - sire MBIF FC Zoiboy Nitro v. Rosehill SC, FCh, GRC, JOR (Thompson/Golcher) dam DC Silkenswift Lady in Red SC, FCh (Rebecca Peters-Campbell & Melissa Pearce) turns 1 year old today. Jazz show a lot of potential both in the show and performance arenas. A very determined and clever boy he will be one to watch.

To Show or Not to Show

If you take a sound hound to a coursing event or racing event you know that the performance of your hound will get a reasonable score, based on that hounds ability on that day. It may not be the top score but it will be a score befitting a sound run that day by that hound.

If you take a sound hound to a show, it's a crap shoot. One judge will place him 1st while the same hound would not even get a look from another judge even in the same day - same handler, same conditioning, etc. Something is wrong with that picture. A hound does well or not well in a show based on a person who may not know diddly about the breed. It has nothing to do about the hound. It has all to do about the person standing in the ring that day.
